How does an assistive listening device work?

There is an audio transmitter that is used for isolating the needed sound from a noise in the nearby area and then they relay the sound isolated to a tiny receiver which is possessed by the listener. This relaying process is done through a wireless radio frequency.

The receiver then transmits that sound to the listener’s through either a direct audio input or with the help of a looper cord. An assistive listening device does not fall into the category of a hearing aid. However, it can be used simultaneously with one. 

What is the goal of an assistive listening device?

Their basic goal is the reduction of strain that a person would experience normally when they are listening to someone from a distance or maybe in a situation where there are surrounding loud noises or different kinds of noises, that are a distraction for them.
